Oral sucrose analgesia for preterm infant venepuncture.

چکیده
A lthough studies of oral sucrose solution for procedure related pain in neonates have been subjected to a meta-analysis and a systematic review, several problems have been noted, and only one small trial focused on the role of oral sucrose for preterm venepuncture. We therefore performed a randomised, double blinded, placebo controlled, crossover trial of 25% sucrose solution in healthy preterm infants to assess its efficacy in reducing pain responses during routine venepuncture.

Analgesic effect of breast milk versus sucrose for analgesia during heel lance in late preterm infants.
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this trial was to investigate whether breast milk (either breastfed or bottle-fed) has a better analgesic effect than sucrose in newborns born at a postmenstrual age between 32 and 37 weeks. METHODS We conducted a randomized controlled trial at a secondary care neonatal unit in the Netherlands on 71 preterm neonates (postmenstrual age at birth 32-37 weeks), undergoing...
متن کاملTrial of Repeated Analgesia with Kangaroo Mother Care (TRAKC Trial)
BACKGROUND Skin-to-skin contact (SSC) between mother and infant, commonly referred to as Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), is recommended as an intervention for procedural pain. Evidence demonstrates its consistent efficacy in reducing pain for a single painful procedure. The purpose of this study is to examine the sustained efficacy of KMC, provided during all routine painful procedures for the dura...
متن کاملRoutine sucrose analgesia during the first week of life in neonates younger than 31 weeks' postconceptional age.
OBJECTIVE To determine the efficacy of sucrose analgesia for procedural pain during the first week of life in preterm neonates in neonatal intensive care units on enhancing later clinical outcomes. METHODS A total of 107 preterm neonates who were born at <31 weeks' postconceptional age (PCA) entered this double-blind, randomized, controlled trial within 48 hours of birth at 3 level III univer...
متن کاملA Sweet Solution With Oral Sucrose
overview of oral sucrose analgesia for infants. The administration of oral sucrose, with or without nonnutritive sucking (NNS), has been the most frequently studied nonpharmacological intervention for relief of procedural pain in neonates. Oral sucrose has a beneficial role in pain prevention and management for infants, including babies in the emergency department. Although most research on ora...
متن کاملOral sucrose for heel lance enhances adenosine triphosphate use in preterm neonates with respiratory distress
OBJECTIVE To examine the effects of oral sucrose on procedural pain, and on biochemical markers of adenosine triphosphate utilization and oxidative stress in preterm neonates with mild to moderate respiratory distress. STUDY DESIGN Preterm neonates with a clinically required heel lance that met study criteria (n = 49) were randomized into three groups: (1) control (n = 24), (2) heel lance tre...
